Eyelid surgery removes the loose excess skin and the excess fat from the upper and lower eyelids as well as the fine wrinkles around the eye. Upper and lower lid surgery is often performed in one operation.

With age the skin of the upper and lower eyelids becomes wrinkled and starts drooping. In some cases the wrinkled folds of skin hooding the eyelashes on the upper lids disturb vision. The fat surrounding the lower eyelids starts protruding forming puffy bags under the eyes. Dark circles and bags under the eyes, sagging eyebrows and the loose eyelid skin can make you look constantly tired or sad.

Correction of the drooping eyelids often requires lifting of the eyebrows that can be done in coronal lift. Quite often eyelid surgery is performed in combination with some other facial surgery.

Correction of the upper lid often requires elevations of the eyebrows achieved by the coronal lift. Often blepharoplasty is done in combination with some other facial surgery.

Upper- and lower-lid blepharoplasty is a common aesthetic operation done on middle-aged patients.

Many factors contribute to the process of premature aging including sun exposure, stress, smoking, poor diet and nutrition and alcohol consumption. Usually upper and lower eyelid surgery is done on middle-aged patients.

In case the drooping upper lid skin causes vision impairment, the operation cost can be partially covered by KELA (Social Insurance Institution of Finland). Otherwise, eyelid surgery is not refundable.
