Lip Contouring
The lips play an important role in facial expression. Full and plump lips have always been considered sexy and sensual while thinning of the lips and radial lines become an unwelcome symbol of ageing, giving a tense and angry appearance.
At our hospital we use several methods of lip contouring and augmentation. Quite often this minimally invasive procedure is performed in combination with other facial operations. Patients are pleased with this rapid and easy procedure giving an overall freshening and rejuvenating effect.
Methods of Lip Contouring
Restylane injections to enhance the lip contour and to enlarge the lip red
lip contouring with Gore-Tex
lip augmentation with fat grafts or scar tissue
a method of lip filling with patient's own collagen in conjunction with, e.g., a facelift developed by professor Nordströmin and his team
lip augmentation with Zyderm-collagen
lip augmentation with galea tissue

Surgical methods of lip augmentation shortening the vertical length of the upper lip and enlarging the lip red (e.g., Buffalo Horn excision)

Restylane
Restylane is the most common filling substance used for lip augmentation of today. Restylane is a synthetic hyaluronic acid totally identical to that naturally found in the body. Restylane injections are used to enhance the lip contour and to enlarge the lip red to achieve fuller and more symmetric lips. Restylane is very suitable for rejuvenation of the ageing lips. It is inserted into the lip with a small needle and a pain sensitive patient might require a local anesthesia prior to the procedure. The whole procedure lasts only a few minutes. Following lip augmentation with Restylane, your lips may be red and somewhat swollen for a couple of days. In rare cases some bruising might occur following the injections. Results are temporary, and a touch-up might be necessary within a year of the original treatment to maintain the desired effect.

Gore-Tex
Gore-Tex is a safe and tried filling substance very popular with the patients. Gore-tex thread is soft and elastic and around 1,8 mm in diameter. It is inserted inside of the lip to enhance the lip contour and smooth out the wrinkles. Gore-Tex does not get reabsorbed by the body so the operation results are permanent. The thread can be inserted as often as required to achieve the desired fullness of the lips. At one operation up to three threads can be inserted into the lip. The procedure is done in local anesthesia. Swelling may last 2-3 days after the procedure.
Other Methods
When patient's own tissues as well as scar tissue are used for lip augmentation, the result of the operation lasts several years while the lips filled with Zyderm collagen or augmented with fat grafts remain plump just for a few months.
